Leverage BigQuery cached query results

🎉 What's new

Atlan's query editor Insights now supports cached query results for Google BigQuery tables, views, and materialized views! What does this mean for you? For repeated runs of the same query, Atlan will leverage cached query results from Google BigQuery, saving you the compute cost of rerunning identical queries.

Query data with SSO credentials

🎉 What's new

Querying data and viewing sample data with SSO credentials is now open to all non-guest users! 🚀 Say goodbye to shared service accounts — introducing bring your own credentials (BYOC) SSO in Atlan!

✨ Let's dig deeper

Data access control is in your control with BYOC SSO:

  • Users can bring their SSO credentials to querying data and viewing sample data in Atlan, ensuring a secure and personalized experience. Each user's permissions in the data store will be seamlessly applied to every query, unleashing the power of granular controls without the hassle.
  • Already defined access controls in your data stores? Leverage them effortlessly in Atlan, saving you time and effort.
  • Atlan currently supports the following connectors for SSO authentication — Amazon Redshift with Okta, Google BigQuery, and Snowflake OAuth.

Enhancements to lineage graph

🎉 What's new

Two new visual enhancements to the lineage graph coming your way — a home icon to represent the originating asset and an Expand all option for a comprehensive view of upstream and downstream asset lineage.

These enhancements can help you better navigate the lineage graph and reduce the number of clicks required to view upstream or downstream assets.

For example, imagine that you're working with a data pipeline that involves many different nodes. You will be able to use the Expand all option to quickly see the entire path from the selected node to the leaf node — no need to click each intermediate node! Then, use the home icon to find your way back to where you started.

Stream query results for faster insights

🎉 What's new

We are excited to announce that Atlan now supports streaming query results. When querying in Insights, query results will arrive in batches as soon as they are fetched from the source. This means you no longer have to wait for the query run to be completed to view results!

Why should you be excited?

  • Streaming query results can help fetch data faster from the source.
  • Results will be shown in batches — get the popcorn ready!
  • You can also cancel the query as the results are streaming in if you accidentally started it — giving you more control.

👏 Give it a shot

Ever experienced long wait times for query results? This one's for you! With streaming query results, get helpful insights more quickly in Atlan.

Move queries between query collections

🎉 What's new

We’re excited to announce that users can now move queries between query collections in Insights with just a few clicks!

✨ Let's dig deeper

This enhancement solves a longstanding issue of not being able to move queries between collections. If you either had to recreate or duplicate an existing query and then save it in another collection, we understand your pain. Now, you can simply move queries from one collection to another with just a few clicks.

For example, if you have a personal query collection for your draft queries and you would like to share some of those queries with your team, you can now move the query to a shared collection in Insights. This can help you collaborate with your team easily and share insights faster.

👏 Give it a shot

Move your queries to the query collection you need seamlessly. Feel free to share your feedback with us, too!

Scheduled queries enhancements

Atlan Insights brings two enhancements to the SQL editor that will improve the query management experience.

Pause scheduled queries

Users will have the ability to pause a scheduled trigger from executing till the underlying query is updated and approved.  This will prevent stale results from being sent. It will also reduce data costs as frequently scheduled queries will not run till the underlying query is fixed and the schedule is resumed.

Run scheduled queries anytime

Users will have the ability to run a scheduled query anytime using the “Run Now” option. This will be useful in cases where a scheduled run did not execute and teams will not have to wait till the next trigger is executed.

Popularity and usage metrics for Snowflake

Organizations are always looking for how to get the most out of their data while controlling costs. Often, they don’t know which data assets they can trust, which have fresh data, which are most often used, and which can be eliminated.

We’ve added new usage and popularity metrics to help data teams manage their Snowflake assets. Use these new metrics to save cloud data warehouse spending costs by identifying the most used assets, finding people with the most context on each data asset, and more.

These new capabilities include.

  • Sort by popularity: Sort search results on the Asset page using the Most Popular / Least Popular sort options.
  • Popularity indicator and popover: Every Snowflake table, view, or column with query history in the last 30 days will have a popularity indicator on the search card.
  • Asset profile usage metadata: For any table or view with usage metadata, use the Profile page to discover the most popular or least popular columns.
  • Usage tab: Accessible in the sidebar, this contains the most important usage metadata for the asset such as Top Users, Recent Users, and which queries are Popular, Slow, or Expensive.
  • Work with popular, slow, or expensive queries directly in Insights: Start working with any popular query, slow, or expensive query directly in the Insights Query Editor.
  • Usage filters: Discover assets using powerful filters based on the number of queries or users, the last time it was queried, the last row updated, and total compute cost.
