Presenting new filters for your column assets in Atlan — index, cluster, and distributed keys! These new column filters can help you discover the assets you want to work with more quickly.

We’re excited to announce that users can now move queries between query collections in Insights with just a few clicks!

✨ Let's dig deeper

This enhancement solves a longstanding issue of not being able to move queries between collections. If you either had to recreate or duplicate an existing query and then save it in another collection, we understand your pain. Now, you can simply move queries from one collection to another with just a few clicks.

For example, if you have a personal query collection for your draft queries and you would like to share some of those queries with your team, you can now move the query to a shared collection in Insights. This can help you collaborate with your team easily and share insights faster.

The reporting center in Atlan has a new dashboard in store for you — usage and cost! This dashboard is designed to help you monitor and manage your assets more effectively.

The usage and cost dashboard is based on usage and popularity metrics — currently only available for Snowflake and Google BigQuery assets. You can use the new dashboard to monitor your data usage, identify any unused assets, and reduce dark data — helping you better optimize your operations and save costs.

Here are a few examples of how the new usage and cost dashboard can help:

• Find out how many tables were queried by your dbt service account in the last 30 days to learn more about data usage.
• Identify assets that have not been updated at source in the last 60 days and orchestrate a cleanup with your team.
• Discover the most popular assets and track enrichment metrics for them to better understand the costs incurred.

• A new Fields tab in the asset sidebar.
• A new Field Preview section in the asset profile.
• Opening a field asset in a new tab leads to a view of the parent asset profile with the child asset displayed in the sidebar.

🎉 What's new

We are excited to announce native support for Kafka events in Atlan! Kafka is an event-streaming platform that enables real-time data transfer between business applications. With this integration, data teams can now discover and document operational metadata from their Kafka systems in Atlan.

✨ Let's dig deeper

Atlan currently only supports fetching metadata from Apache Kafka and Confluent Cloud. The following asset types are supported:

• Topics
• Consumer groups

The current package does not support schema registry and schema type definitions.

The native support for Kafka assets enables you to discover and enrich your operational metadata in Atlan, visualize the data flow with end-to-end lineage, and foster collaboration across your data teams through Slack and Jira integrations.

For example, while data engineers will be able to get insights into the operational context of upstream assets, business users will be able to examine the downstream consumption of assets and review the potential impact of upstream changes.

We are actively working to enhance our Kafka integration by supporting more native asset types and other flavors of Kafka. Stay tuned for more updates!

Introducing two powerful enhancements for your playbooks — enable or disable any filter and enter multiple values for your filters.

Enable or disable playbook filters

You can now enable or disable playbook filters to quickly check the potential impact of the playbook on your assets. Toggle your filters on or off to preview the impact of each filter. This enhancement gives you the ability to assess the impact of your changes, along with better control over defining your filters.

Add multiple values to playbook filters

Atlan now supports adding multiple values for your playbook filters. Instead of having to create a new filter for each entry, you can now enter multiple values for every filter  — for example, you can add multiple keywords for asset names.

We are excited to announce that usage and popularity metrics are now available in Insights for your Snowflake and Google BigQuery assets!

With the availability of usage and popularity metrics in Insights, you can:

• View these metrics for your assets in the schema explorer and easily identify the most relevant asset for your queries.
• Gain usage context for your assets right from the query editor as you draft your queries.
• Enhance your query-writing process based on autosuggestions for the most or least popular assets.

The new requests widget brings together all your requests in a centralized location, helping you track, manage, and prioritize them better.

Here are some cool things you can do with the requests widget:

• Open the requests widget from anywhere in Atlan!
• Find all the requests that need your attention in one place and take action right away.
• View a summary of all your requests and track their status — pending, approved, or rejected.

The requests widget is designed to help you streamline your work, so try it out and let us know what you think. 

The assets dashboard in the reporting center has some new things up its sleeves!

Here are the new features that you can explore:

• README metrics — track metrics for assets with READMEs, directly from the reporting center.
• Has readme filter — filter out assets that do not have any READMEs to ramp up documentation efforts.
• Custom date picker — filter metrics for your assets within a custom date range.

These enhancements to the assets dashboard can help you monitor your asset metrics at a more granular level and customize the reporting center to better fit your needs.
