Trident suggestions 🔱 expanded to Terms, Classifications and Owners

So far, Trident suggestions helped you with metadata curation by suggesting descriptions of existing assets with the same name. Now, we have expanded Trident suggestions to Terms, Classifications, and Owners too!

Where can you see the suggestions?
On the asset sidebar, where the user generally visits the widgets for metadata updates. How are suggestions provided?
  1. When you update an owner for an asset type (say, for a table asset), Atlan will automatically check other table assets with the same name and provide the owner you updated as a suggestion!
  2. Note that this happens for assets with the same name only for the same asset type.
  3. Also, note that this will work even if the owner has been updated via a workflow or via API-based bulk updates
We are excited to see your Trident suggestions help you supercharge your metadata curation :)

Column projections in Visual Query Builder! ✨

Our users who prefer Visual Query Builder (VQB) for low-code or no-code SQL querying can now make column-level projections. This means you can select specific columns to analyze and do calculations on, giving you a richer querying experience.

This update will help you:
1. Query specific columns of the table
2. Download/export specific columns of a table

Bring Oracle data assets to Atlan with Direct Connectivity

In September 2022, we launched the Oracle Asset package with support for on-prem systems. Then, we heard that you also wanted to bring a cloud instance of the Oracle database into Atlan so that you could preview the data and query it too.

Drumroll, please? We are very excited to announce that we unlock all that and more with our latest release.

You can now bring Oracle data assets to Atlan and get asset 360° profiles, asset previews, and querying capability if there is direct connectivity established with Oracle. Not just this, if you bring Fivetran enrichment to Atlan, this update will also give you lineage across systems! Go beyond the modern data stack.

Lineage -> More metadata in impact analysis report and download upstream assets.

We have two new and exciting updates in Lineage graphs for you.

1. More metadata in impact analysis reports: We've added descriptions, BI source URL, and Atlan URLs in the reports. When shared as a csv with team members, the user can also redirect BI source URLs as well as Atlan's asset link.

2. Ability to view and download upstream assets: Users can now view the upstream assets as well as download them as csv file to carry out their root cause analysis tasks via lineage graph.

Enforce user credentials for querying 🔐

Earlier, as a user, you had to use default credentials for querying. With our new update, admins can enforce users to authenticate themselves before they query a connection.

For admins, this means you will be able to better govern who gets to query data.

For the user, this means you will never stumble upon information that isn't pre-vetted, so you can continue working without any worries.

Note: Admin will have to enable this via Labs.

Export query results with >100,000 rows via email

In the previous SQL querying experience in Insights, users could only scan and see up to the default of 100,000 rows. We heard requests from users about wanting to scan more rows and exporting results for analytics and reporting. So, we got to work.

With this new update, you can directly export queries returning more than 100,000 rows to your email!

Notes:

1. Admins will have control over the query limit they would like to set for users. This can be configured from the connection sidebar.

2. Admins will be able to use this feature right away, and we will soon open up the feature to all users.

Atlan integration with Fivetran 🚀

We wanted to share some amazing news with you: Atlan just launched our integration with Fivetran to create the FIRST end-to-end view of the modern data stack. 🚀

By partnering with Fivetran, we're solving a core problem: your analysts, engineers, developers, and data producers have never had full visibility of your data landscape.

When your team doesn't have visibility, your developers might unknowingly make schema changes that break dashboards. Your analysts wake up to frantic calls from business users. Your Salesforce admins delete Fields without realizing the impact on executive reports. We've all been there. As a data team, as data leaders.

Atlan's integration with Fivetran helps you avoid this chaos.

By leveraging Fivetran's Metadata API, Atlan now builds column-level lineage from your Fivetran sources all the way to BI tools like Looker & Tableau — giving you complete visibility across your modern data stack.

What does this mean for you?

🏠 Your entire team — analysts, engineers, scientists, and BI consumers — can collaborate together, in one home.

🛠 Developers get complete visibility on how Fivetran pipeline changes will impact BI dashboards and analysts depending on them.

🔎 Analysts are able to trace lineage upstream to find the right engineers and Salesforce fields to investigate broken dashboards.

Are you as excited as we are? Learn more →

Add a secondary data type for columns using inferred data type.

If your column data type is stored in a standard format (like string) but you’d like a secondary data type, you can now use the new Atlan function to attach an inferred data type for columns. This will help you use Visual Query Builder with ease.

For example, if your column contains a date, but is stored in a string data type. Now, you will be able to infer this column as a date data type.
