Import Data Modeling assets into Atlan

🎉 What’s new

Atlan now enables cataloging of Entity–Relationship (ER) models, helping teams bridge the gap between business and technical users. With ER model metadata in Atlan, organizations can enhance collaboration, streamline change management, and reinforce data governance.

✨ Let’s dig deeper

Ingest ER models with ease
You can now bring your ER models into Atlan using an Excel template:

  • Data model ingestion – Use Atlan’s custom package to ingest ER models via an Excel template.

Unlock new capabilities with ER models

  • Foster collaboration – Business and technical users can now share a unified view of data relationships across systems, breaking down silos.
  • Simplify impact analysis – Visualizing entity relationships helps assess the downstream impact of technical changes with confidence.
  • Strengthen governance – Define access controls, retention policies, and governance rules based on entity relationships, ensuring trust and accountability.

Visualize and map your data

  • Entity Diagrams – Navigate entities, attributes, and relationships visually to simplify understanding and communication.
  • Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Models – Map ER models across different abstraction levels to align business concepts with technical implementation.
  • Link ER Entities to crawled assets – Link entities to actual data assets in Atlan (e.g., an ‘Order’ table in Snowflake).

👏 Give it a shot

Reach out to your CSM to enable the ER model ingestion package. Upload ER assets via Excel and let us know what you think! Refer to these docs for more information.

Enhancements to Power BI dataflow lineage

🎉 What's new

Announcing a revamped lineage experience for Microsoft Power BI dataflows!

Data teams rely almost exclusively on Power BI dataflows to pull data into Power BI from upstream sources such as Snowflake, Oracle, and more. Dataflow lineage is critical for helping data teams trace root cause or impact analysis efficiently through Atlan. This made us go back to the drawing board to ensure a smoother experience for our users.

✨ Let's dig deeper

With this release, you can explore the following updates:

  • Power BI dataflows cataloged as native assets.
  • Power BI dataflows represented as assets on the lineage graph instead of being represented as processes.
  • Nested dataflows represented on the lineage graph.
  • Introducing a new asset type, dataflow entities. These will be represented as column assets in Atlan.
  • Support for column-level lineage from upstream sources. This includes dataflows and dataflow entities, thus providing greater visibility on the lineage graph and impact analysis report.

👏 Give it a shot

🎉 What's new

You can now search and discover data products from the Assets discovery page! If you have enabled the products module as an Atlan admin, turn on the Show products in asset discovery toggle to allow your users to search for data products on the assets page or using the search bar.

✨ Let's dig deeper

When you publish a new product in Atlan today, you will be able to find that product right from the Assets page. The filters for owners, domains, terms, and more work for products just like assets. The data products returned in the search results sport product-specific metadata such as product score and output ports.

This feature helps your users discover data products from wherever they are in Atlan, just start typing in the search bar!

👏 Give it a shot

Enjoy a more powerful discovery experience on the assets page for your data products. And while you try it out, let us know what you think!
