Manage Google BigQuery tags in Atlan

🎉 What's new

Lead the charge on data governance with Google BigQuery tag management in Atlan! Atlan allows you to import your  BigQuery tags and policy tags and update your BigQuery assets with the imported tags.

Tag sync is currently one way — Google BigQuery ➡️ Atlan:

✨ Let's dig deeper

Tags created natively or sourced from Google BigQuery can now be imported to and managed within Atlan. You can also attach Google BigQuery tags, including tag values and hierarchies, to your Google BigQuery assets in Atlan.

To import Google BigQuery tags to Atlan, you can either:

  • Create a new Google BigQuery workflow and configure the crawler to import tags.
  • Modify the crawler's configuration for an existing Google BigQuery workflow to change Import Tags to Yes.

👏 Give it a shot

Improvements to dbt test mapping and more

🎉 What's new

Here are some hot-off-the-press improvements and fixes for our dbt users in Atlan:

  • dbt test mapping in asset preview and sidebar — we've fixed dbt test mapping in the asset preview card and sidebar. Previously, dbt test results did not display the right environment relationship between the materialized table and dbt test, displaying incorrect information. We've fixed the test mapping to show the correct environment.
  • Descriptions for dbt materialized assets — we've updated the way in which Atlan pulls descriptions for materialized tables. If a materialized table is linked to multiple dbt assets, Atlan will apply the description from the linked dbt model to the materialized asset. In case this is unavailable, Atlan will then apply the description from the linked dbt source to the asset.
  • Greater visibility for job and model statuses — to provide you with full clarity, Atlan now breaks down job and model status for your dbt materialized tables. You can view the model that materialized a specific table and model status or the job that executed the model as well as job environment and status.

Search for data products in asset discovery

🎉 What's new

You can now search and discover data products from the Assets discovery page! If you have enabled the products module as an Atlan admin, turn on the Show products in asset discovery toggle to allow your users to search for data products on the assets page or using the search bar.

✨ Let's dig deeper

When you publish a new product in Atlan today, you will be able to find that product right from the Assets page. The filters for owners, domains, terms, and more work for products just like assets. The data products returned in the search results sport product-specific metadata such as product score and output ports.

This feature helps your users discover data products from wherever they are in Atlan, just start typing in the search bar!

👏 Give it a shot

Enjoy a more powerful discovery experience on the assets page for your data products. And while you try it out, let us know what you think!

Say goodbye to outdated Monte Carlo incidents

🎉 What's new

Atlan now crawls Monte Carlo alerts and incidents for the last 30 days by default! This ensures that the red indicators and failing monitors are relevant and actionable, helping you focus on recent and meaningful issues. You'll also have the option to set the date range to the last 14 or 45 days instead of the default configuration.

✨ Let's dig deeper

Previously, Atlan fetched all historical alerts and incidents from Monte Carlo, which often resulted in irrelevant red indicators and failing monitors. For example, an outdated failing monitor from one year ago could show up in Atlan today, causing unnecessary confusion.

Hence, we've optimized the Monte Carlo integration to deliver the following:

  • Faster syncs — reduced runtime for the Monte Carlo package, enabling you to schedule your workflows more frequently.
  • Fewer API calls — a significant reduction in API requests to avoid any rate-limiting issues with Monte Carlo.

👏 Give it a shot

For any new and existing Monte Carlo integration in Atlan, you'll only receive alerts and incidents for the last 30 days after the next workflow run. You can also modify the configuration to change the data range.

Save data products as draft

🎉 What's new

You can now save data products as draft in Atlan! Take the time you need to curate your data products before unveiling them to your data teams.

✨ Let's dig deeper

When you create a new product in Atlan, you will now have the option to Save as draft on the very last step of the product creation flow:

  • Save your changes in a draft version and publish it only when you're ready. Atlan recommends that you enrich your draft product with requisite documentation and certification status before publishing it.
  • Only you and any other users you add as owners to the product will be able to search for, view, and edit your draft products, depending on their permissions. You can also archive a draft product, which would delete it entirely.
  • Navigate to My drafts on the products homepage to view all your draft products. Only a draft product's lineage graph shows lineage with the draft product included, to help you envision the future state.
  • A draft product will not show up in search, on the sidebar, or product lineage view for other products.
  • You can also change the status of a published data product to Draft if you think it needs more work.

👏 Give it a shot

Enjoy the time and freedom to curate your products your way with draft mode. And while you try it, let us know what you think!

Imported tags retention in workflow configurations

🎉 What's new

We've enhanced how Atlan handles tag sync for modified workflow configurations. Previously, disabling tag import would remove any imported tags from your assets. Now, when you modify a workflow to disable tag import, Atlan will automatically preserve all previously imported tags while preventing future tag import. This improvement maintains data continuity and protects your existing tag attachments.

Atlan currently supports importing tags from the following data sources:

  • Databricks
  • dbt
  • Snowflake
