Securely extract metadata from within your org

🎉 What’s new

The Atlan Secure Agent is a lightweight application that is deployed within an enterprise and facilitates metadata extraction. The Secure Agent acts as a gateway and connects to source systems and extracts metadata. This architecture avoids inbound connectivity to these systems as well as ensures secrets are managed internally.

✨ Let’s dig deeper

The Secure Agent is designed for secure, scalable, and efficient metadata extraction.

Currently supported connectors

  • Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Salesforce
  • More connectors getting supported soon!

Security-first architecture

  • Runs entirely within the organization's infrastructure, preventing secrets from leaving its boundary.
  • Uses outbound, encrypted communication to interact with Atlan SaaS.
  • Supports logging and monitoring and integrates with external monitoring systems for auditing and compliance.

Scalable metadata extraction

  • A single deployment of the Agent can connect to multiple source systems.
  • Supports multiple concurrent metadata extraction jobs.

Flexible deployment

  • Deploys on cloud-based Kubernetes environments (such as Amazon EKS, Azure AKS, and Google GKE) as well as on-premises clusters.
  • Scales dynamically based on workload demands.

Automated operations

  • Continuously monitors system health and sends heartbeats to Atlan.
  • Captures and uploads execution logs for troubleshooting and auditing.

Import Data Modeling assets into Atlan

🎉 What’s new

Atlan now enables cataloging of Entity–Relationship (ER) models, helping teams bridge the gap between business and technical users. With ER model metadata in Atlan, organizations can enhance collaboration, streamline change management, and reinforce data governance.

✨ Let’s dig deeper

Ingest ER models with ease
You can now bring your ER models into Atlan using an Excel template:

  • Data model ingestion – Use Atlan’s custom package to ingest ER models via an Excel template.

Unlock new capabilities with ER models

  • Foster collaboration – Business and technical users can now share a unified view of data relationships across systems, breaking down silos.
  • Simplify impact analysis – Visualizing entity relationships helps assess the downstream impact of technical changes with confidence.
  • Strengthen governance – Define access controls, retention policies, and governance rules based on entity relationships, ensuring trust and accountability.

Visualize and map your data

  • Entity Diagrams – Navigate entities, attributes, and relationships visually to simplify understanding and communication.
  • Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Models – Map ER models across different abstraction levels to align business concepts with technical implementation.
  • Link ER Entities to crawled assets – Link entities to actual data assets in Atlan (e.g., an ‘Order’ table in Snowflake).

New Entity Creation Workflow Now Supports Data Products

🎉 What’s new

Data Products can now be selected as an entity type in the New Entity Creation governance workflow template. This release empowers organizations to enforce governance controls when creating Data Products. Here's how it works:
  • Whenever a user creates a new Data Product, the workflow will automatically trigger an approval process—ensuring governance from the start.
  • If a user attempts to update the status of a Data Product from Sunset, Archived, or Draft to Published, the workflow will be activated to maintain compliance and governance.
We’re working on extending support for Data Products in Access Management and Change Management Workflows—stay tuned!

Configure Reusable Forms

🎉 What’s new

A powerful capability that enables organizations to collect specific inputs, present critical information, warnings, or agreements for acknowledgment—seamlessly integrated into diverse business processes.

✨ Let's dig deeper

Organizations often need to gather structured inputs from participants or display important messages—such as warnings, policies, or agreements—for acknowledgment as part of their business processes. However, existing governance workflows lack the flexibility to configure these interactions based on evolving business needs.Introducing a dedicated Forms section that provides:

  •  Form Builder – A flexible form creation tool supporting customizable componentslike:
    • Text fields
    • Dropdowns
    • Numbers
    • Dates
    • Custom metadata, and more
  • Monitor & Response Dashboard– Gain visibility into:
    • Workflows where the form is used

Webhook Support in Governance Workflows

🎉 What’s new

Enhance your Access Management workflows with webhook support, enabling seamless automation of access provisioning and revocation. Now, once an access request is approved in Atlan, or a revocation request is raised, a webhook event can be triggered to launch external processes, ensuring efficient and automated access management.

  • Trigger an event post-approval, for granting access, or upon a revocation request, for removing access
  • Admins can now define actions for revoking access within the Access Management Workflow

✨ Let’s dig deeper

Organizations need a way to automate provisioning and revocation processes once access decisions are made in Atlan. Previously, approvals in Atlan had to be followed by manual actions in external systems to grant or revoke access.

Webhook Support for Automated Provisioning & Revocation

  • After an access request is approved in Atlan, a webhook can be triggered to initiate provisioning in external systems.
  • When a revocation request is raised in Atlan, a webhook can trigger external actions to revoke access from the source system without requiring further approvals.

Access Management Workflow Enhancements

  • The "Data Access Approval Workflow" template will now be renamed Access Management to better reflect its expanded capabilities.
  • Admins can now define actions for revoking access within the Access Management Workflow. Once a revocation request is raised in Atlan, an action (Webhook, Jira, or ServiceNow) can be triggered to ensure access is revoked from the source system.

Important Note: The Access Management Workflow only supports revocation actions for access granted in the source system. Permissions granted through Governance Workflows in Atlan will continue to follow their default revocation process.
