Conditional Branching in Governance Workflows

Govern with precision, automate with flexibility! You can now dynamically route requests within your governance workflows based on metadata changes or entity destinations—enabling organizations to mirror their internal processes with tailored logic and conditional approvals.

🎉 What’s New

Conditional Branching is now live — enabling dynamic routing in governance workflows based on conditions. It’s available in:

  • Change Management Template: Trigger branches based on what metadata is modified.
  • New Entity Creation Template: Route requests for terms, categories, or data products based on creation context.

✨ Let’s Dig Deeper

Conditional Branching adds powerful logic to governance workflows. Here’s how each template works:

Change Management Template

  • Create branches based on modified attributes (e.g., Name, Owners, Tags, Custom Metadata).
  • Each branch supports:
    • Multiple OR-based conditions
    • Independent approvers and approval strategies
  • A fallback path ensures unmatched changes are still handled (and allows for non-governed change exclusions).

New Entity Creation Template

  • Branch logic depends on where the entity is being created — glossary, category, or domain.
  • Each path can:
    • Use its own request form
    • Collect contextual inputs
    • Define separate approvers
  • Includes a fallback for unmatched requests.

🌱 What’s Coming Next

Planned enhancements will bring even greater control with:

  • Attribute Value-Based Logic
Route based on what a value is changing to (e.g., Certification set to “Verified”).
  • User/Group-Based Logic
Customize branches based on who is initiating the change.
  • Custom Field-Based Logic
Use form values (e.g., criticality, request purpose) to influence workflow routing.

👏 Give It a Shot

Try Conditional Branching today with either template. Build flexible, intelligent approval flows tailored to your governance needs.

Multi-Action Access Management

Govern smarter, automate deeper! You can now configure multiple actions to be triggered in your Access Management workflows, unlocking richer automation and control for data access at scale.

🎉 What’s New

Previously, Access Management workflows supported only one action post-approval- typically to grant or revoke access. But governance teams often need to:

  • Raise JIRA/ServiceNow tickets
  • Notify internal systems via webhooks
  • Combine multiple downstream processes

With Multi-Action Access Management, you're no longer constrained to one action, bringing flexibility and operational power to every access request.

✨ Let’s Dig Deeper

Trigger Multiple Actions on Access & Revoke Requests
Configure multiple sequential actions in your Access Management workflow template, for both:

  • ✅ Access Requests: Actions trigger after approval
  • 🚫 Revoke Requests: Actions trigger immediately when initiated (no approval step)

Supported actions include:

  • Grant/Revoke access in Atlan
  • Trigger a webhook
  • Create a JIRA or ServiceNow ticket

💡 Note: More action types will be added soon!

🌱 What’s Coming Next

  • This feature is currently limited to Access Management workflows, but we’re working to support:

    • Additional workflow types (e.g., Metadata Updates, Ownership Changes)
    • An expanded list of action types

👏 Give it a Shot

Start configuring multiple automated actions in your Access Management workflows and reduce manual steps in your access governance process

Customize main navigation visibility with navigation display preferences

🎉 What's new

Introducing preferences to control the visibility of main navigation menu options in Atlan. This allows you to customize the main navigation items shown to specific user personas, thus completely abstracting away parts of the experience that won't be relevant for them.

✨ Let's dig deeper

When you open any persona today, you can head over to the "Preferences" tab in  the persona. Click on the "Navigation" option at the top of this page. You will see a new set of preferences showing the navigation items.

You can toggle any of the items on/off to show/hide that particular main navigation item for the users.

Your main navigation items will consist of-

  • Assets
  • Glossary
  • Insights (if you have this enabled)
  • Products (if you have this enabled)

Note- This impacts the pages you can choose from the custom landing options. If you do not have a main navigation item selected, you cannot choose it from the custom landing options.

👏 Give it a shot

Start customizing your users' main navigation experience today with main navigation preferences. And while you try this, let us know what you think!

Tag propagation - Downstream lineage only

🎉 What’s new

Atlan now supports a new tag propagation mode - lineage only

✨ Let’s dig deeper

You can now propagate tags:

  • Hierarchy & lineage allows tag propagation to child and downstream assets.
  • Hierarchy only (no lineage) allows tag propagation to child assets only.
  • [new] Lineage only (no hierarchy) allows tag propagation to downstream assets only.
  • No propagation disables any tag propagation.

Enhanced Databricks Support in Atlan

🎉 What’s new

We’re excited to unveil significant enhancements to the Databricks connector, elevating the crawler and miner capabilities to drive greater flexibility, governance, and trust across your Databricks landscape.

✨ Let’s dig deeper

  • Primary and Foreign Key (PK & FK) Support: We now capture and display PK/FK information from Databricks, helping users identify the unique keys of assets.
  • Materialized View Support: We now ingest and catalog Materialized Views created via native Databricks SQL. Users can visualize MV lineage and gain clear insights into their dependencies and upstream sources.
  • Enriched DBX Lineage Process: Users can now view enriched Databricks lineage with detailed entity types (e.g., Pipelines, Notebooks) and unique entity IDs, providing clarity and traceability in their data flows.
  • Enabling Cloned Catalog Support for Databricks Miners: We now allows configuring alternative catalog for Databricks Miners when access to the default System tables is restricted. This provides controlled access to lineage metadata, ensuring that users only see information relevant to their business entity.
  • Improved Preflight Checks: Enhanced preflight validations provide a smoother Databricks onboarding experience in Atlan.

Access Management for Database & Schema

🎉 What’s New

A smarter way to request access! Users can now raise access requests at the database or schema level—eliminating the need to submit individual requests for each table or view. This makes access management faster, easier, and more scalable across large datasets.

📍 Request Access at a Higher Level

  • Raise access requests at the Database or Schema level instead of individual assets
  • Once approved, access is automatically granted to all child assets

⚙️ Configurable Access Management Workflows

  • Admins can set up workflows to:

    • Grant access directly in Atlan
    • Or trigger external access flows via Jira, ServiceNow, or Webhooks

🛠 Approvals & Controls

  • Approve or reject access requests at the database or schema level
  • Any user assigned as an approver—whether Admin, Member, or Guest—can take action
  • Admins can revoke access directly within Atlan or trigger revocation through connected source systems

🔔 Notifications & Tracking

  • Automated alerts for access and revoke events via Inbox or Slack
  • Full visibility into request status, who approved it, and when

👏 Give it a shot

This capability is now live in Public Preview for all organizations using Governance Workflows. Admins can immediately start using it in Access Management templates to speed up and simplify data access.
