Export assets to Microsoft Excel

🎉 What's new

For all our Excel enthusiasts, Atlan now supports exporting assets to Microsoft Excel! This enables our passionate community of Atlan users to find the perfect spreadsheet match for their needs — Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel online, take your pick.

✨ Let's dig deeper

Once your Atlan admin has integrated Microsoft Excel, you will be able to export your assets and asset metadata to spreadsheets. Note that you'll require read permission on the assets you want to export.

Here's what you can do:

  • Assets tab: Filter and export assets and asset metadata based on your filtering criteria.
  • Asset profiles: Export child assets and associated metadata from the parent asset profile.
  • Glossaries: Export terms and categories within glossaries, nested terms within categories, and linked assets for terms.
  • Reporting center: Export crucial metadata for assets tied to specific reporting metrics.

Just like with exporting assets to Google Sheets, you can easily monitor the live export status directly in the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and stay informed about the number of exported assets. Plus, review your previously exported sheets in the export popup in Atlan for quick reference!

Note that Atlan currently does not support updating asset metadata in the spreadsheet and syncing exported assets back to Atlan.

👏 Give it a shot

This release heralds exciting times ahead for spreadsheet enthusiasts! Learn more here: How to export assets.

And keep an eye out for upcoming enhancements — updating and syncing metadata back to Atlan!

✨ Let's dig deeper

To set up filters for your playbooks, you can use the following Snowflake tag values:

  • Allowed values — you can select values from a list of predefined values imported from Snowflake.
  • Tag values — you can select values from a list of custom values added in Atlan while attaching or editing imported Snowflake tags on an asset.

Power asset search with advanced filters

🎉 What's new

Atlan now brings to you advanced filtering capabilities, enabling you to select multiple options for supported filters. Say goodbye to being limited to selecting only one option for a specific filter!

✨ Let's dig deeper

This release empowers you to do the following:

  • Select multiple filter options — users can multi-select filter options, enabling simultaneous filtering based on various criteria. For example, whether filtering for a failed Airflow run OR an aborted Airflow run, you can now perform both actions in a single step and more!
  • Checkbox-like filtering for more filters — custom metadata options, asset/source-specific filters, and the announcement filter under properties now support a checkbox-like filtering experience, allowing you to select multiple values based on OR/AND/NAND conditions. This is currently not supported for owner and tag filters.
  • Introducing new logical operators — these can be applied to all multi-select filters:
    • For properties that only allow a single value per asset, such as the certificate and announcement filters, Atlan now offers three operators: Or, Not empty, and Empty.
    • For properties that allow multiple values per asset, such as terms, custom metadata options, and more, users can choose from five options: Or, And, None of, Not empty, and Empty.

👏 Give it a shot

Upgrade your discovery experience in Atlan with these advanced filtering capabilities!

Improved sort and display preferences

🎉 What's new

Power your discoveries in Atlan with a more intuitive interface for sorting search results and a sparkling new sort option — star count! These enhancements will help increase the visibility of sort options available to you while making them more user-friendly.

  • All sort options are now neatly contained within a dedicated dropdown menu located next to the search bar.
  • The applied sort option will be prominently displayed for greater visibility.
  • Granular sort options are now grouped into submenus, making them easily scannable!
  • Display preferences and export capability have been consolidated into one menu for quick access. Psst... more enhancements to this menu are coming soon!

And there's more — introducing the star count sort option! ✨

Sort your assets by star count and arrange your search results based on the number of stars on assets. This gives you a quick ticket to finding the most-loved assets in your organization. For both new and existing users, it's not just a sort option but a trust signal for all your adventures in Atlan! 🚀

New and improved search experience!

🎉 What's new

We've upgraded Atlan's search algorithm to improve the relevance and ranking of asset search results and supercharge your discovery experience!

Atlan's search algorithm takes into account asset names, descriptions, linked terms, certification status, starred count, and more to boost relevant assets in the search results. To learn more about how to ensure a high-quality search experience, see How to search and discover assets.

✨ Let's dig deeper

Here are some cool things to look out for:

  • If the keyword you're searching for is a glossary term linked to assets or present in asset descriptions, such assets will be boosted in search results.
  • Whether your search query is incomplete or misspelled, Atlan's powerful search can still help you discover exactly what you need.
  • When you enter two or more keywords, Atlan will find assets with asset names that partially match the keywords or a combination of them to narrow down the search results.
  • Atlan's revamped search experience takes into account multiple factors, along with search relevance, to sort results — certification status, popularity, starred count, and more.

👏 Give it a shot

Why wait until the new year to do something new? Try out Atlan's new and improved search right now! Search improvements are turned on by default, but Atlan admins can turn them off from Labs in the admin center — simply toggle off Search relevance improvements.

Join Atlan in our quest to power your search and discovery experience to the next level, and let us know what you think!

Add tag values to Snowflake tags in Atlan

🎉 What's new

Atlan now supports adding tag values for Snowflake tags! You can assign any value to a Snowflake tag in Atlan, and if reverse sync is enabled, the tag attachment will be synced back to source. You can also filter your Snowflake assets in Atlan based on tag values.

✨ Let's dig deeper

Atlan supports the following for imported Snowflake tags:

  • Allowed values — you can select a value from a list of predefined values imported from Snowflake. For example, a PII Snowflake tag may have Name, Email, and Phone Number as allowed values that have been defined at source to ensure consistency of usage across the organization. Allowed values provide you with a clear set of options, reducing the possibility of any errors in tagging.
  • Tag values — enter any value in Atlan while attaching or editing imported Snowflake tags on an asset. For example, if no values have been defined at source for the  PII Snowflake tag, you will be able to add custom values like Confidential, Highly Confidential, or Internal in Atlan to indicate data sensitivity. This provides flexibility for dynamic categorizations without predefined constraints.

👏 Give it a shot

Get started with managing your Snowflake tags in Atlan:

  • How to manage Snowflake tags
  • How to attach a Snowflake tag
  • Troubleshooting Snowflake tag management

With this release, Atlan empowers you to manage your Snowflake tags in Atlan based on your organization's unique use case and requirements.
